As of late

So I just realized that all my blog postings are about things that have happened around 5-6 months ago. So I thought you all would like to read something rather current.

I am very much aware of the fact that the font and the background of this blog defy all the rules of visual media but I don't really care. Yet. I probably will soon and will make some changeroos.

So like I was saying or typing. As of late. Well the best news that I have heard in a long time is the fact that WEDDING PLANS   are officially done. Generally and overall I love weddings. I love seeing 2 people make covenants to be with each other their entire lives (all eternity is preferable). So yea David loving weddings has been established. I am so excited to marry Melissa. I can't wait for my wedding day because even if everything goes wrong (weird combo of torrential rainstorm, blizzard, cake falling over, flowers wilting and the reception venue catching on fire), it will be the best day of my life.

That being said PLANNING a wedding is not as much fun as going to one. There are a lot of things that go into it and there are definitely highs and lows. These scarce "highs" are ring shopping, CAKE SHOPPING!! and I can't think of anything else. The Lows would be the rest. Oh and this is from a guy's perspective, I am sure that Melissa loves the planning to a further point than I do but I also know that she is happy it is over.

Well I can't mention cake shopping without telling this funny story. The first place we went to try cakes it was in a barn. Yea. We should have walked away when we saw the place. We opened the door and it seemed that a clowder of cats with their litters ran out and the place was just disgusting when we walked inside. Dirty and she clumped cake crumbs together and gave them to us as an indicator as to how her cake would taste and be like. Uh ok. We left with laughs and it was great. Well great knowing that we wouldn't have to use her.

Well I am so excited for the wedding day. Not all our family will be able to come because it is a bad weekend for my family in Spain to travel just to go to a reception. On the other hand Melissa's grandparents are going to be able to come all the way from Virginia and we are SOOOO excited to see them. I met them once in September I think and love them already.

Well I have so much to say and I will write again very soon. I wrote today about our present but next time...I will write about the future...which is going to be AWESOME!

Part 2 of THE story...

***SPOILER ALERT***

DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE LAST BLOG ENTRY

So...where did we leave off. Ok So Melissa and I left the store and I told her to not talk about anything wedding or marriage and that was pure torture. The topic kept getting brought up. This was like the 10th of November and at this time I was planning on proposing in the middle of December.

Well Melissa told her parents and sisters that we had gone ring shopping and I was worried because the week of Thanksgiving we were going to all be in her parent's house outside of Las Vegas. Me Melissa her sister's families and her parents. I was worried that since everyone in the family knew, they would all be wanting to talk about it all the time and the topic would get worn down and by the time I proposed it would already be old news and there would be zero magic and zero surprise. She assured me that she would tell them not to bring it up but I was still a little wary. These people have a mind of their own and I doubt it would be humanly possible to go an entire week without someone pointing out the elephant in the room.

So I came up with a master plan. I was going to propose BEFORE thanksgiving and then we could talk about it with her family!

So yea. That Saturday (one week before we left for thanksgiving) I went to the store to buy the ring. If had to get resized so it would fit her toothpick fingers. I made the by far most expensive purchase of my life and they told me it would be ready within the next week. Perfect.

Well that Saturday Melissa went shopping with some roommates and they were at the mall. That mall had the same jewelry store as place we looked at in Rexburg and her roommates wanted to see the ring so they went in and she pointed it out to them. The salesman told her that the ring there in that store was too big to size down and this ring would take 6 weeks to order in so "I better hurry up and get it now." Even MORE perfect.

So Melissa told me this and I was ecstatic! I had already boughten the ring and was planning on proposing soon and she thought the soonest it could happen was 6 weeks. I remember acting upset and basically telling her that it wasn't fair that he said that because now she knows more or less when it will happen.

So...now for the proposal. I knew these things for sure.

1. I did NOT want to propose in either of our apartments. We both had roommates that were awkward and just no...not happening like that.

2. I did NOT want a public proposal, or for it to be recorded. I kinda wanted it to be something that we could remember as being more magical than it was without people being like "actually it wasn't like that. I saw"

3. I wanted it to be awesome and a complete and total surprise.

So that Thursday I picked up the ring and it was perfect!

I had it in my pocket and I felt like it was a ticking bomb! I just wanted it to go on her finger so I wouldn't lose it.

I was enrolled in an FA100 class and I picked her up to go to this HORRIBLE play. She was in a tiny bit of a mood because I told her to have all her homework done by that night ( she stayed up till 1 am the night before...yikes) so that she will be free that thursday night and I assured her it would be worth it.

So yea I pick her up and then we go to the play. The Marriage of Figaro. It was good....kinda. Just a bunch of 2nd rate opera singers belting out the confusing and strange story. I wasn't focusing at all on account of the rock in my pocket...which she tried leaning into and I had to move a lot so she didn't feel the ring in my jacket pocket. Well the play got over and my heart started racing. The plan was to go get some hot chocolate and go for a walk and rock her world with a nice kick butt proposal. It was cold. Melissa happens to be afflicted with cold induced urticaria, which basically means she is allergic to the cold. Her legs turn red and get hives and its just bad. Well we got some hot chocolate and went to Smith park and I told her to get out so we can go for a walk. The very confused Melissy pants gets out of the car and into the darkness we go. Every 30 feet or so there was a street light with had like a 10 feet radius of light but outside the radius it was dark. Too dark to see the ring. So I was timing it and the conversation was awkward....well not awkward but strange because I was trying to time it. Well we turn back and sit on the sign that says "Smith Park" and I told her how I knew I wanted to marry her (something she really wanted to know and I told her I would never tell her until we were engaged) and then I got down on one knee pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me. She denies it kind of but let it be known, to everyone reading that she DID cry. She said yes through tears and I put the ring on her finger and we kissed. We then went to her 2 besties' apartment and Karlie Passie and Tevi Camargo were the first to know. Naturally because they were of her friends our 2 greatest fans. They took pictures.

So yea in this picture it looks like I proposed in their apartment. I most certainly did not.

This was the best night of my life. The play sucked and the hot chocolate wasn't the best but I got engaged to the best friend I have ever had, and I am going to get sealed for time and all eternity. Its only a matter of time. 16 days 23 hours 14 minutes and 12 seconds to be exact.

The start of the beginning....

Got some good feedback on my last blog so I wanted to write something again...

So yea I guess I should give all you people out there surfing the web some nice and uplifting literature to read. I guess the best thing that I can think of to share for you all to read is to tell you all the story of Melissa and I's engagement.

So as you read down below...you know that Melissa and I started dating last May/Junish and has a heck of a time together that spring semester. The semester came to an end and Melissa and I stayed for the 7 week break and what a blessing that was. She had 4 awesome roommates and Melissa and I were able to spend a lot more time together and we grew really close. I loved those nice summer weeks. The fall came and all the nasty people started flowing back into town and we got our schedules booked and we would just sit and complain about how awful the fall is compared to the summer. Those were good times as well.

While the semester progressed I had obviously known that I was to marry Melissa and I was working with her dear friend Karlie to coordinate this while discussing it with my mom. It was super exciting to plan this. I remember thinking that we would get engaged in the spring and get married in the fall. Yea. I don't even need to tell you that plan went to crap a long time ago. I was thinking about maybe proposing to her Christmas break in North Carolina when she came to visit just because it is a much more metropolitan area which is definitely implying that there are a lot more romantic spots for the proposal. That seemed good ans was the plan for a while but then I was thinking and I kinda wanted Melissa to have a ring at the end of the semester that she could show off to her classmates that she knew the whole semester because I guess girls like to do that sort of thing. It would be better than starting a new semester engaged when the jealous and bitter girls would not even care and kinda would deflate the moment. Thats just how some girls are here at BYUI unfortunately.

Well during the time of this contemplating the where and when and how of the proposal I was ring shopping and I found this ring I thought Melissa would LOVE and kinda made my mind that I was going to buy it. I  of course waited because I still didn't know when I was going to propose and I didn't want to get a ring toooo far in advance.

WELL during this time Melissa brought up the topic of marriage one night after we watched a movie and where cuddling and talking. The cat was out of the bag and she knew I wanted to marry her. I tried to get the topic other places because I hate when people already have wedding plans made before the actual proposal...just seems so weird and definitely takes the magic out of the moment don't you think? So I told her that we shouldn't talk about it much and she very subtly implied that she wanted to go ring shopping. I could see the logic behind that. I mean she would be the one wearing the ring her whole life so it might as well be one that she likes right? So that monday I took her to the store (having in mind that I would let her pick and not suggest the ring I had picked out) and she was all over the place. The poor thing did not have a clue what she wanted and she kept having to tell the poor jeweler man that she didn't like what he was picking out for her....which is something Melissa does not like to do. So I decided to recommend the ring I had picked out earlier. I did and she loved it and it was awesome. As we left the store I looked into those pretty eyes and said "it is safe to assume that one day we will be married, but until then the proposal and marriage talk is off limits" To her this was the absolute torture....

Mean while.... I was making a plan on how to propose...............

To be continued.......

We have a blog now!

So this is David Berg here. I have been unsuccessfully bugging Melissa to get one of these for quite some time so I just decided to start one up. Well I guess Ill start by giving some background information. Im David Nelson Berg Martinez. Yes that is a swedish-spanish surname combo of which I am very proud. My dad's family is of Swedish heritage and my mom's is from Spain. They are all there now actually and I love going there. Well that is all you guys are going to get from me because I don't want some psycho stalker to know EVERYTHING about me...

Well now for the good stuff. If anyone out there in internetland knows me at all they would definitely know that I am engaged to the most beautiful and amazing person in the entire world. Melissa Irene Joy Baxter...soon to be Melissa ? Berg --> she still has to decide what her name is going to be. She is of some mut heritage I think (misc white european heritage) BUT she definitely has some sexy mediterranean in here because of her amazing hair and skin tone. Why do I feel the need to blog about our heritage? No idea...

Well now for the REALLY good stuff!

Melissa and I met kinda last April but first hung out in May. Good story. Lots of hot springs, food, movies, talking, and fun. Not going to tell the entire story here in this blog because Im not all about casting pearls before swine. (jk but it is personal and if you are a good friend you probably already know) But ANYWAYS I really knew right away that she was someone really special and I knew I was in love when a couple months later we survived an amazing road trip to Utah to go to a Carrie Underwood concert. I remember looking at her during the fireworks and knowing "it's only a matter of time" and BOOM! A couple months later we were engaged and 120ish days later here we are today. I got this nifty app on my Iphone that is called "wedding countdown" and according to it we are getting married in 18 days 20 hours 26 minutes and 35 seconds. That is the countdown till when our sealing starts. I am SOOOOOO excited to start my life with this phenomenal girl.

I am a business finance major with an emphasis in pre-law and spanish. I will go on to law school upon finishing and will go out with my dual-citizenship and rule the world. My wife-to-be is an English education major with a minor in journalism education. She will I guess be the hot english teacher to a bunch of hormonal high school and/or middle school kids. yipee.

Well I am excited for life. We get married in a few weekends afterwhich we are heading out to a surprise top secret honeymoon that will rock our worlds I'm sure. I am also pleased to inform you all that we are moving into our apparment when we return which will be nice to have a place to call our own.

Well I will get back to you all really soon.
